About the Program
The Master of Engineering with specialization in Civil Engineering is a research and/or project-based program that emphasizes the application of theories and methods to actual problems in the industry and the academe through a capstone design that integrates knowledge taken in the earlier courses.
A balance of courses on construction project management, structural analysis and design, sustainable engineering, computational modeling, contemporary technologies in civil engineering, industry immersion, and entrepreneurship provides wide arrays of opportunities for the students to solve real-world problems.
Program Educational Objectives
- Demonstrate advanced competencies in the chosen engineering specialization with observance of professional ethics.
- Active in engineering research, development or innovation.
Student Outcomes
- Demonstrate competence in graduate level mathematics, natural sciences, engineering fundamentals andn specialized engineering knowledge appropriate to the program.
- User appropriate knowledge and skills to identify, formulate, analyze, and solve complex engineering problems in order to reach substantiated conclusions.
- Conduct investigations of complex problems by methods that include appropriate experiments, analysis and interpretation of data and synthesis of information in order to reach valid conclusions.
- Design solutions for complex, open-ended engineering problems and to design systems, components, or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate attention to health and safety risks, applicable standards, and economic, environmental, cultural, and societal considerations.
- Select, apply, adapt, extend and create appropriate tools (resources, software, techniques, hardware, equipment) to a range of engineering activities, from simple to complex, with understanding of the associated limitations.
- Work effectively as a member and leader in teams, including multidisciplinary settings.
- Communicate complex engineering concepts within the professions and with society at large.
- Understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the Professional Engineer in society, expecially the primary role of protection of the public and the public interest.
