About the Program
The Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics Program is intended to encourage the development of mathematics in the Philippines through the production of highly trained mathematicians whose research works contribute to the development of new knowledge. Corollary to this main objective is the upgrading of mathematics teaching in colleges and universities.
Program Educational Objectives
- Demonstrate the highest acuity of critical thinking skills in the application of mathematics in modern industry or teaching with the continued observance of progessional ethics.
- Operate as research mathematicians either in pure and applied aspects for the academe or business and industry.
- Attain the highest level of oral proficiency in explaining concepts and in solving complex mathematical problems.
- Be excellent information source for non-expert users of applied mathematics and statistics.
Student Outcomes
- Acquire the highest skills to comprehend and construct correct mathematical and statistical proofs and learn its use to solve real life problems.
- Use mathematical and statistical techniques proficiently to solve well-defined problems and present their mathematical work, both in oral and written format in class and to various audiences.
- Conduct research to formulate and analyze mathematical and statistical problems, as well as applying ethics in the practice fo the profession by using this mathematical concepts in moral and judicious manner.
- Learn various mathematical theories and statistical techniques useful in advancing education, communication and other fields.
- Promote and sustain a meaningful mathematical and statistical application of new knowledge to sustain academic advancement.
- Challenge applicability of new knowledge by engaging in research.
- Show optimism on solidarity while in study in order to attain relevant professional activities.
